Into the new millenium ...

The person who led the department into the new millennium was Chief Earl A. Greene. Chief Greene became the seventh Fire Chief of the Clark County Fire Department on November 21, 1996. Since his first day in the office, Chief Greene made it very clear that he and his staff have definite plans for the future of the department. After all, a city that never sleeps needs fire department that never sleeps.

Today the Clark County Fire Department is the largest paid fire department in the State of Nevada. We employ 577 Firefighters, 57 Inspectors, 57 administration, training, and support employees. We are also proud to have Nevada’s largest volunteer force of 350 persons. We operate 24 fire stations with paid employees and 13 volunteer fire stations.

The services we provide include: Urban Fire Services, Rural Fire Services, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, Emergency Medical Services including Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Life Support (Paramedic Program), Hazardous Materials Response Team, Fire Prevention, Fire Investigation, Disaster and Emergency Preparedness, Public Education and Technical Rescue including: Urban Search and Rescue Team (FEMA National Response Team), Confined Space Rescue, Heavy Rescue and Swift Water Rescue.

In our endeavor to provide the best service possible, the department constantly reviews, updates, and revises its coverage and response plans. We also collaborate closely with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire Department, Henderson Fire Department, Boulder City Fire Department, Mesquite Fire Department, and numerous other agencies in a joint effort to provide the highest level of fire, rescue, and emergency medical support to residents and visitors.

Clark County is among the fastest growing areas in the nation. The latest official population count of the unincorporated portion of the county served by the CCFD is 636,462 with an average of nearly 5000 new residents arriving each month. In addition, we welcome approximately 36 million visitors from all over the world each year. Clark County is home to the nation's sixth largest school district and we provide services to McCarran International Airport-seventh busiest in North America and 11th busiest in the world. The tremendous population growth combined with ever-expanding tourism and other industries pose great challenges to our department. In the 10 years between 1991 and 2001, the number of emergency calls increased by 232%!
